SUBJECT: “LENT IS MORE THAN SACRIFICIAL FASTING AND PRAYER”

“And [we obligate ourselves] to bring the first fruits of our ground and the first fruits of all the fruit of every tree to the house of the Lord annually.” -Nehemiah 10:35. AMP

Many times, the “Giving” part that is connected to the sacred season of Lent is excluded. Giving is the major part that expresses a caring spirit during Lenten celebrations. Nehemiah 10:35 Teaches Us to Commit Ourselves to Giving. Nehemiah was teaching the people of Israel to obligate themselves to give “ALMS.” Nehemiah’s message and mission to the people was to encourage them to commit to giving alms to the needy just as we give first fruits.

He firmly tells them that GOD calls each one to give our best in every way to his work. Giving and sharing to GOD’S people is the work of the caring and kindness Ministry.

Although tithing, first fruits, is throughout the Old Testament, there is much to learn and say about it in the New Testament. It seems to me that the New Testament explains how to give. It says we should give generously, sacrificially, willingly, and cheerfully. (2 Corinthians 8-9).

The Lenten season is a perfect time to establish or reestablish “Giving” to the Work of the LORD. When you give, it is not just to your local church. Even though that’s the start. But your giving and sharing of alms can also be to your community, charity, and the homeless. If you desire to observe all the pillars of Lent, including alms giving, GOD will point you to the needed way.

Remember:

How else will the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST be spread abroad unless we give and share our alms?

Prayer:

Thank You for Blessing us with more than we need for ourselves.

Holy Spirit, help us give generously and sacrificially to the things that matter to GOD. We thank you, FATHER, for trusting us to obey your command to give freely. May the obedient be pressed down and running over Blessing with our reward and favor. In Jesus's Name, Amen.
